HOLD A HOUSE PARTY!
A house party is just a party. An event you have in your home...much like ones you already have for birthdays and casual evenings with friends. It is simple to organize, requires little financial commitment, and allows you to meaningfully reach out to your friends and family about stopping domestic violence - and have fun, too!

You can organize a special party about 700women.org and the Violence Against Women Act, or simply spend a few minutes on VAWA at a gathering you already have in the works, like your book group, a dinner party, or any kind of event!

You can use a house party to:
  • Educate friends and families who may not know about our opportunity to reauthorize VAWA.
  • Invite people to sign the petition.
  • Ask people to make a donation to the campaign. Every little bit helps!

Please send signed petitions to:
Amnesty International USA c/o 700 Women Campaign; 600 Pennsylvania Ave SE; Washington DC 20009

Here are some basic steps for organizing your house party:

STEP 1: Determine the focus of your gathering. A special party or just adding it in to your movie night or other event? It's up to you.

STEP 2: Invite friends. You could say something like this: "I'm having a dinner party and I'd love for you to come! Good food, good friends, and a good cause...stopping violence against women. Somewhere between dinner and the movie, we'll spend just a few minutes talking about how to help end violence. I hope you can come! Here are the details..."
  • Begin inviting your attendees about 2-3 weeks prior to the house party.
  • Email and call your invitees at least once or twice before your event.
  • Check out our downloads page here.
STEP 3: Gather your materials. Feel free to print out anything on this site! STEP 4: Have your party! Somewhere during the party, ask your guests to listen to your pitch about why reauthorizing VAWA is important to you. Check out our stories here. Make it personal. Keep it brief. Keep it simple.

End with your two requests:
  • "Please join me in signing the petition." Pass around the paper petition that you've printed and/or have your computer on and connected to the 700women.org page for people to sign online.
  • "Please make a gift to support the campaign. Every little bit helps!" Your guests can make a gift online--have your computer connected to the 700women.org page--or ask them to write a check. Make the checks payable to: Amnesty International USA.
STEP 5: Follow up! Make sure you thank your guests. Send them an e-mail in a week or two about what's going on with the campaign.
  • Send the checks and petitions to:
Amnesty International USA c/o 700 Women Campaign; 600 Pennsylvania Ave SE; Washington DC 20009
  • Let us know what happened! Send us an e-mail at 700women@aiusa.org.
